In the wake of a losing season, Virginia Tech men's basketball coach Mike Young is shaking up his staff.
Virginia Tech announced Friday that Christian Webster, who has been a Hokies assistant coach for nine seasons, won't be back next year.
Recruiting coordinator Blake Wetherington, who was hired last summer, won't be back, either.
"Both have bright futures ahead and we wish them nothing but the best," Young said in a news release.
“As we move forward, we are evaluating every aspect of our program to position Virginia Tech men's basketball for long-term success. These changes reflect our commitment to that vision and present new opportunities for us to evolve with the current landscape of college athletics.â€
Webster was a Tech assistant coach since 2016. He was an assistant for Buzz Williams' final three seasons as Virginia Tech's head coach and was retained by Young when Young succeeded Williams in 2019.

Webster helped Virginia Tech make three NCAA Tournament appearances under Williams, including a run to the Sweet 16 in 2019. The Harvard graduate helped the Hokies make two NCAA Tournament appearances and win the 2022 ACC Tournament under Young.
But the Hokies went just 13-19 this season — their first losing season in 10 years. They have not made the NCAA Tournament since 2022.
Young has said he wants to improve the team's talent level. Four players have announced this week they will be entering the transfer portal.
