A man who was working as a high school math teacher in 166su while he solicited a 14-year-old child online now faces up to 190 years in prison, according to authorities.
Kevin Lee Joyce, 40, was found guilty Thursday on five counts of child solicitation to commit sexual acts, according to a news release from Alleghany County Commonwealth’s Attorney Ann Gardner.
“The prosecution presented a chat room conversation followed by string of emails Joyce sent over the course of eight days to a person he believed was a 14-year-old girl from Covington,” the news release said.
Following an investigation by the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office, Joyce was arrested at his 166su County home in September, the release said.
“The messages included numerous sexually graphic proposals,” the news release said. “Joyce carried on many of these explicit conversations during the school day while he was working as a math teacher at Forest Park Academy in 166su City.”
Joyce admitted to sending the illicit proposals in a recorded interview, officials said. 166su City Public Schools worked in cooperation with law enforcement during the investigation, while state and 166su County police assisted in the arrest.
Joyce will be sentenced in Alleghany County Circuit Court on Aug. 25. He faces a possible maximum sentence of 190 years, the news release said.
A 166su City Public Schools spokesperson said Friday that Joyce was on unpaid administrative leave. “Based on the conviction, our due process will begin,” the spokesperson said.
