Christiansburg-based Shelor Motor Mile auto dealership group and Blacksburg-based Duncan Ford Mazda on Tuesday announced the sale of Shelor’s Ford dealership to Duncan.
Larry Shelor and David Hagan purchased the former Homer Cox Ford dealership in downtown Christiansburg in 1994 and moved it to the Motor Mile complex just off Interstate 81’s Exit 118.
Both the Shelor and Duncan auto dealerships have long histories in the New River Valley. Last summer, Gary Duncan and Hagan reached a deal to sell the Duncan Honda and Hyundai dealerships in Christiansburg to the Motor Mile group.
In the aftermath, both looked at whether two Ford dealerships would continue to be viable in the Montgomery County market given increased manufacturer demands for upgraded facilities, equipment, training and technology, such as electric vehicle chargers. Making those investments requires a larger customer base, a statement from the two dealers said.
“For Motor Mile, the sale of its Ford store opens a high-visibility spot on its interstate-adjacent campus, and it is likely that both Honda and Hyundai will relocate there in newly constructed facilities. For the Duncan family, the acquisition offers the opportunity to continue its focus on being a legacy Ford dealership without the distraction of a direct competitor in its back door. “
Both groups are excited about the new opportunities and look forward to serving their mutual, often shared, customers for decades to come. The transaction is expected to close in mid-April,” a joint statement said. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
