Payton Dunbar and Alyssa Ervin, two former high school basketball players from the Timesland area, are transferring colleges following their freshman seasons.
Dunbar, a 5-foot-11 guard, announced Wednesday she is transferring from Virginia to Providence with three years of eligibility remaining. The Narrows native and Jefferson Christian graduate played in 15 games for the Cavaliers this past season with one start, averaging just over eight minutes on the floor.
"After careful consideration and a lot of prayer, I have decided to transfer to Providence College!" Dunbar wrote in a post on X. "I’m very thankful for everyone at the University of Virginia. Super excited for this new chapter!"

Dunbar averaged 1.9 points per game, made half a dozen 3-pointers and shot 22.2% from the floor in her rookie season at UVa.

"She can score at all three levels with an exceptional mid-range pull up jumper. Payton has a great attitude and also takes her academics very seriously. The Friars went 13-19 last season, including a 6-12 record in the Big East. They lost in the first round of the conference tournament.
Ervin, a 5-foot-11 guard who is departing from Elon, announced Tuesday she is entering the transferring portal with three years of eligibility left. The former Class 3 player of the year from Carroll County averaged 9.3 minutes in 22 games for the Phoenix, tallying 2.9 points contest and shooting 35.5% from the floor.

Elon finished the season 15-15, going 9-10 in the Coastal Athletic Conference and falling in the second round of the conference tournament.
