In March, Kilah Freelon helped the Texas Tech women’s basketball team beat Virginia Tech.
Now she’s going to be playing for Virginia Tech.
Freelon announced her commitment to the Hokies on Instagram on Thursday night, becoming the second player that Virginia Tech has plucked out of the transfer portal this month.
The 6-foot-1 forward/guard entered the portal earlier this month.
Freelon averaged 4.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 19.9 minutes as a junior this season. She played in 36 games for the Big 12 school, starting 17. She was the starting power forward for the team’s final 15 games of the season.
She has already played a game at Cassell Coliseum, having started in Texas Tech’s win over the Hokies in the second round of the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament in March. She had seven points, six rebounds, two steals and a block in 29 minutes.

Texas Tech lost to Florida in the WBIT quarterfinals to finish 19-18. Freelon had seven points and nine rebounds in that game.

Freelon had 15 points and nine rebounds against Colorado this year. She had nine points and eight rebounds in another game against Colorado. She had 10 points against both Arkansas and WBIT first-round foe Wyoming.
She snared 11 rebounds against Stephen F. Austin this year. She had nine rebounds against Central Florida. She grabbed seven rebounds against Florida State, Houston, Kansas and Cincinnati.
Freelon averaged 7.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and 23.5 minutes as a Texas Tech sophomore. She played in 27 games, starting 25.
She averaged 3.1 points and 12.2 minutes as a freshman backup.
There are now 11 players set for Virginia Tech’s 2025-26 roster.
Former Purdue guard Sophie Swanson committed to the Hokies earlier this month.
There are six returning scholarship players — Carleigh Wenzel, Carys Baker, Mackenzie Nelson, Kayl Petersen, Samyha Suffren and Leila Wells.
Virginia Tech signed three recruits last fall — Aniya Trent, Amani Jenkins and Kate Sears.

Young joining UNC
Former Virginia Tech men’s basketball player Jaydon Young has changed his mind about his next destination and will now be joining one of the Hokies’ ACC rivals.
Young, who entered the transfer portal last month, had announced on Instagram in late March that he would be transferring to Big South champ High Point in his home state of North Carolina.
But earlier this month, Alan Huss stepped down as High Point’s coach to become an assistant coach and the head-coach-in-waiting at Creighton.
On Friday, Young announced on Instagram that he has now committed to North Carolina and will be joining the Tar Heels instead.
Young averaged 8.1 points and 22.5 minutes for the Hokies as a sophomore guard this year. He ranked second on the team with 45 3-pointers. He played in all 32 of Tech’s games this year. He started 10 games, including the final three games of the season.
Young scored in double figures in Tech’s final six games. He had 12 points in a March 4 loss to North Carolina, when he went 2 of 10 from 3-point range.
