Police are currently investigating the death of a Rocky Mount man at the Ply Gem/Cornerstone Building Brands facility on Thursday afternoon.
The Rocky Mount Police Department, as well as Franklin County Public Safety, responded to a report of an unresponsive individual inside an empty industrial compactor container at approximately 4:10 p.m. on Thursday, according to a town news release. Shehta M. Sokr, 54, of Rocky Mount, was found deceased inside, according to the release.
Rocky Mount Police Chief Phillip Young said Sokr was an employee of the company and had worked the previous day. He said the compactor container where Sokr was discovered was empty and unused on a side lot of the facility.

Young said there was no evidence of injuries, no evidence of foul play and no signs of drug use found during an on-site investigation. Sokr may have entered the container on his own, he said.
The opening to the container was facing a wall of the facility and wasn’t an area that employees often passed by, Young said. It is unknown how long he may have been inside the container.
The incident remains under investigation. The body has been sent to the regional Medical Examiner’s Office for further forensic examination to seek a determination on a cause of death.
Ply Gem is an exterior home building product manufacturer.
