President Donald Trump says he is open to Elon Musk buying TikTok in order to keep the app functioning in the United States. Trump proposed that the US jointly own half the company, continuing that Musk could be a partner in that deal “if he wanted to buy it”. Musk emerged as a potential buyer just days before the app was set to be shut down in the US, with Trump issuing an executive order to delay the nationwide ban for 75 days. The recently inaugurated President also floated the idea of tech giant Larry Ellison, co-founder of Oracle, buying the video-sharing app. He went on to call on Ellison, who was present at the White House, to negotiate a deal with him in front of the media. According to Trump, in a meeting with TikTok's owners, he suggested that giving the US government 50% ownership would benefit them, claiming the US to be “the ultimate partner”. “The United States will make it very worthwhile for them in terms of the permits and everything else”, Donald Trump. While Trump said he did not have TikTok on his phone, he claimed to have a special relationship with the app, crediting it for capturing the youth vote in his 2024 campaign.
